MikroTik L23UGSR-5HaxD2HaxD Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 AP ROS

The MikroTik L23UGSR-5HaxD2HaxD is a ceiling-mount tri-band Wi-Fi 6 access point — AX4200, 2.4 GHz 802.11ax 2-chain 574 Mbps + 5 GHz-1 802.11ax 4-chain 2,400 Mbps + 5 GHz-2 802.11ax 4-chain 2,400 Mbps, IPQ-6010 quad-core ARM64 at 1,200 MHz, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB NAND, RouterOS v7 License 4, 1× 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet with 802.3at PoE-in, 1× Gigabit Ethernet, passive cooling, IP20, -20°C to +50°C, MTBF ~100,000 hours at 25°C. CE, EAC, RoHS certified. USD 179.00. The correct high-density indoor ceiling-mount Wi-Fi 6 AP for offices, hotels, conference centres, and high-client-count deployments where tri-band operation — two independent 5 GHz radios plus 2.4 GHz — provides client load distribution and dedicated backhaul capability without a separate mesh node or wired backhaul switch port.

The MikroTik L23UGSR-5HaxD2HaxD is MikroTik's tri-band Wi-Fi 6 ceiling-mount access point — a device positioned for high-density indoor deployments where a single dual-band AP cannot serve the client count, and where two independent 5 GHz radios provide the band-steering flexibility, load distribution, and optional wireless backhaul capability that dual-band APs at this price point cannot.

The tri-band architecture separates the three radios onto independent hardware chains:

- **2.4 GHz (802.11b/g/n/ax):** 2-chain, 574 Mbps maximum, serving legacy 2.4 GHz-only clients and IoT devices, and providing the longer-range coverage tier for clients at the edge of the AP's coverage footprint.

- **5 GHz-1 (802.11a/n/ac/ax):** 4-chain, 2,400 Mbps maximum — the primary high-throughput 5 GHz radio for client association. 4-chain MIMO at 5 GHz means four spatial streams simultaneously, supporting MU-MIMO client groupings of up to 4 clients transmitting simultaneously on this radio.

- **5 GHz-2 (802.11a/n/ac/ax):** 4-chain, 2,400 Mbps maximum — the second independent 5 GHz radio. This radio can be configured as a second client-serving SSID on a different 5 GHz channel, as a dedicated wireless backhaul link to an upstream AP or router, or as a dedicated high-density client radio for a specific VLAN or service tier.

The two independent 5 GHz radios operating on non-overlapping 5 GHz channels is the tri-band AP's core operational advantage over dual-band APs in high-density deployments. In a conference room with 80 concurrent Wi-Fi 6 clients, a dual-band AP places all 5 GHz clients on a single radio — contention increases with client count, and throughput per client degrades. The L23UGSR places those 80 clients across two independent 5 GHz radios on different channels, halving the per-radio contention and maintaining higher per-client throughput under load. For a hotel deployment where each floor AP serves a corridor of guest rooms — each room with 3–5 Wi-Fi 6 devices — tri-band operation with two independent 5 GHz radios is the correct AP tier for that client density.

The 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet uplink port is the wired infrastructure requirement that must be stated clearly on the product page. The L23UGSR's combined maximum Wi-Fi throughput across all three radios (574 + 2,400 + 2,400 = 5,374 Mbps theoretical maximum) significantly exceeds the 1 Gbps capacity of standard Gigabit Ethernet uplink switches. The 2.5GbE uplink ensures the wired infrastructure does not become the bottleneck at high Wi-Fi 6 aggregate throughput — but it requires the upstream switch to have a 2.5GbE-capable port. For deployments where the upstream switch is Gigabit-only, the 2.5GbE uplink negotiates down to 1 Gbps — functional, but a wasted capability. State this infrastructure requirement explicitly: "The L23UGSR requires a 2.5GbE-capable upstream switch port to fully utilise its tri-band Wi-Fi 6 aggregate throughput. On a Gigabit-only upstream switch, the uplink negotiates to 1 Gbps."

The 802.3at PoE-in on the 2.5GbE Ether1 port is the power delivery constraint. 802.3at (PoE+) provides up to 30W at the PSE (PoE source) — sufficient for the L23UGSR's maximum power draw. However, not all 2.5GbE-capable upstream switches support 802.3at PoE+ on their 2.5GbE ports — confirm PoE+ support on the 2.5GbE port of your upstream switch before deploying. For switches with only 802.3af (15.4W) on their 2.5GbE ports, the L23UGSR may not power correctly at full tri-band load.

The IPQ-6010 quad-core ARM64 at 1,200 MHz with 1 GB RAM is the processing platform for managing three independent Wi-Fi 6 radios, 802.11ax OFDMA scheduling, MU-MIMO client grouping, and RouterOS management overhead simultaneously. 1 GB RAM matches the Chateau PRO ax and CRS304-4XG-IN — providing headroom for CAPsMAN CAP operation, connection tracking, and RouterOS scripting alongside the tri-band radio management load.

RouterOS v7 License 4 includes CAPsMAN integration — the L23UGSR operates as a managed CAP under a RouterOS CAPsMAN controller, receiving SSID, security policy, channel, power, and band-steering configuration from the central controller. For a multi-AP deployment — a hotel floor, an office building, a conference facility — CAPsMAN centralises configuration management across all L23UGSR units without per-AP manual configuration. Fast roaming (802.11r-compatible) allows seamless client handoff between L23UGSR units in the same CAPsMAN-managed deployment.

The ceiling-mount form factor is designed for standard suspended ceiling T-bar or solid ceiling flush mounting. Confirm mounting hardware compatibility from the brochure — MikroTik ceiling-mount APs typically include a twist-lock mounting bracket for T-bar installation.

The -20°C to +50°C operating temperature range reflects the passive cooling constraint of a ceiling-mount device with three active 4-chain Wi-Fi 6 radios — the +50°C upper limit means the L23UGSR must be installed in a temperature-controlled indoor environment. Above-ceiling plenum spaces in Canadian commercial buildings can exceed +50°C in summer without active HVAC — confirm ambient temperature at the mounting location before installation.

**Canadian market note:** Certifications are CE, EAC, and RoHS — no FCC or IC published. The L23UGSR is an active tri-band Wi-Fi 6 device with three radio transmitters. IC (ISED) certification is required for legal sale and operation in Canada. Confirm IC certification status with your MikroTik distributor before listing.

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.

MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.
