MikroTik RB1100Dx4 13-Port GbE Quad-Core Rackmount Router Dude Edition 60GB M.2 SSD

The MikroTik RB1100Dx4 is a high-performance 1U rackmount router built around the Annapurna Alpine AL21400 quad-core Cortex A15 CPU clocked at 1.4GHz per core, delivering maximum throughput of up to 7.5Gbps and IPsec hardware acceleration reaching up to 2.2Gbps with AES-128. It features thirteen Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual redundant AC power supplies with 802.3af/at PoE-in support and -48V DC telecom power input, and an RS232 serial console port — all in a solid rackmount metal enclosure. The Dude Edition distinction lies in its extensive high-speed storage options: two M.2 slots, two SATA3 ports, and one microSD slot, with a 60GB M.2 SSD included and pre-installed for running The Dude network monitoring tool, proxy cache, or any other storage-intensive RouterOS application.

The RB1100Dx4 is powered by the Annapurna Alpine AL21400 quad-core ARM 32-bit processor, with four Cortex A15 cores running at 1.4GHz each. This is MikroTik's carrier-grade CPU platform, delivering maximum throughput of up to 7.5Gbps across its thirteen Gigabit ports. IPsec hardware acceleration is built in, enabling encrypted tunnel throughput of up to 2.2Gbps using AES-128 — making it faster at IPsec processing than any previous RouterBOARD device at the time of its release. The unit carries 1GB of RAM and 128MB of NAND flash for the RouterOS system, with the RTL8367 switch chip handling hardware-level Ethernet switching.

Ethernet Connectivity

Thirteen 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports provide substantial wired connectivity for core routing, aggregation switching, multi-WAN load balancing, or inter-VLAN routing across large and complex networks. The port count makes it suitable as a primary router for ISP customer edge, enterprise WAN gateway, or network core aggregation without requiring additional switching hardware for most deployments.

The Dude Edition — Expanded Storage

What sets the RB1100Dx4 apart as the "Dude Edition" is its comprehensive high-speed storage subsystem, designed specifically to support The Dude network monitoring application and other storage-intensive RouterOS features. The unit features two M.2 slots, two SATA3 ports, and one microSD slot. A 60GB M.2 SSD is included and pre-installed, ready to host The Dude database, proxy cache, or other data-heavy services. Additional M.2 or SATA drives can be added for expanded capacity or redundancy. SATA cables are included in the box.

Dual Redundant Power Supplies

The RB1100Dx4 features dual redundant AC power inputs, providing power supply failover in the event of a single PSU failure — a critical feature for always-on network infrastructure. It also supports two DC inputs: a 2-pin terminal accepting -48V DC (standard telecom power) or 20–57V DC, and a PoE-in input (802.3af/at) accepting 20–57V. This combination of AC redundancy and telecom-standard DC input makes the unit well suited to carrier and data centre environments with existing -48V DC power plants. Maximum power consumption is 33W (25W without attachments). Two IEC power cords are included.

Passive Cooling

Despite its processing power, the RB1100Dx4 operates entirely passively — no fans — making it silent in operation. This is particularly advantageous in low-noise environments or deployments where fan failure is a reliability concern.

Serial Console and Out-of-Band Management

An RS232 serial console port provides out-of-band management access for recovery, initial configuration, and remote console scenarios, which is standard practice in professional rackmount router deployments.

Monitoring

The unit includes a PCB temperature monitor, voltage monitor, current monitor, and a beeper — giving administrators comprehensive real-time visibility into the hardware's health through RouterOS.

Software

The RB1100Dx4 runs RouterOS with a Level 6 licence — the highest RouterOS licence level — unlocking every RouterOS feature including unlimited tunnels, advanced routing protocols, MPLS, traffic engineering, and the full suite of bandwidth management and firewall tools. The operating system is pre-installed and licenced; no separate purchase is necessary. RouterOS also includes native support for The Dude network monitoring server, which can be run directly from the included 60GB M.2 SSD.

Build and Form Factor

The unit ships in a standard 1U rackmount metal enclosure measuring 443 × 148 × 44mm, with rack ears included for immediate rack installation. A K-57 kit is also included. The tested operating temperature range is -40°C to +70°C, and MTBF is approximately 200,000 hours at 25°C, reflecting the carrier-grade reliability standards this unit is built to.

Use Cases

The RB1100Dx4 is designed for ISP core and edge routing with high-throughput IPsec VPN requirements, enterprise WAN aggregation and multi-site VPN gateway deployments, data centre routing with 10G+ aggregate throughput needs, and network operations centres running The Dude for large-scale network monitoring. It is equally suited to any environment requiring a silent, fanless, carrier-grade router with extensive storage for running persistent network services.

General information

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.
