The MikroTik XQ+85MP01D is the short-reach companion to the XQ+31LC10D — where the XQ+31LC10D covers 10km on single-mode fiber via Dual LC at USD 349.00, the XQ+85MP01D covers 100m on multimode fiber via MTP/MPO-12 at USD 89.00. It is the correct 100G transceiver for data centre top-of-rack connections, server room inter-switch cabling, and campus intra-building 100G links where pre-terminated MTP/MPO-12 multimode fiber trunk cables are already installed.
**4× 25G channels on 850nm multimode — how 100GBASE-SR4 works**
The XQ+85MP01D implements 100GBASE-SR4 — four independent 25G full-duplex optical channels, each on a separate fiber strand within the MTP/MPO-12 cable, at 850nm VCSEL wavelength. The MTP/MPO-12 connector carries 12 fiber strands simultaneously: 4 transmit strands (one per 25G channel) + 4 receive strands + 4 unused strands in the standard SR4 configuration. All four 25G channels aggregate to 100 Gbps full duplex. At 850nm on OM4 multimode fiber, the IEEE 802.3bm standard specifies up to 100m reach — OM3 multimode reaches approximately 70m at 100G SR4. For a data centre row where top-of-rack switches connect to an end-of-row or middle-of-row aggregation switch within 100m, the XQ+85MP01D on pre-terminated MTP/MPO-12 OM4 trunk cables is the standard deployment architecture.
**MTP/MPO-12 cable requirement — Female-Female Type-B polarity**
MikroTik explicitly specifies the cable requirement: Female-Female Type-B polarity MTP/MPO-12 optical cable. Type-B polarity is the straight-through pinout — strand 1 at one end connects to strand 1 at the other end. This is the correct polarity for SR4 transceivers where the transmit and receive strand assignments are mirrored between the two ends. Confirm the polarity of any existing MTP/MPO infrastructure before deployment — Type-A (crossed) or Type-C (pair-flipped) polarity cables are incompatible with the XQ+85MP01D's SR4 lane mapping. MTP/MPO-12 Female-Female Type-B patch cords and trunk cables are standard stock items at structured cabling suppliers.
**Dual 40G / 100G operation — QSFP+ backward compatibility**
The XQ+85MP01D is listed as both QSFP28 (100G) and QSFP+ (40G) format — the same MTP/MPO-12 physical connector and 850nm 4-lane architecture is used for both 40GBASE-SR4 (4× 10G lanes) and 100GBASE-SR4 (4× 25G lanes). In a QSFP+ port operating at 40G, the XQ+85MP01D operates as a 40GBASE-SR4 transceiver. In a QSFP28 port operating at 100G, it operates as 100GBASE-SR4. This backward compatibility is useful during a phased 40G-to-100G infrastructure migration — a single transceiver model covers both generations.
**Digital diagnostics — optical power monitoring in RouterOS**
Built-in DDM/DOM reports received and transmitted optical power to the host device — accessible in RouterOS interface monitoring. As documented for the XQ+31LC10D: a gradual decline in received optical power indicates fiber degradation, dirty connectors, or excessive bend radius before a link failure occurs, enabling scheduled maintenance rather than reactive outage response.
**Cross-sell note for wirelessnetware.ca:** List the XQ+85MP01D as a recommended accessory on the CRS504-4XQ-IN/OUT, CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN, CRS518-16XS-2XQ-IN, and CCR2216 product pages alongside the XQ+31LC10D — clearly differentiate: *"Short-reach 100m multimode MTP/MPO — XQ+85MP01D (USD 89.00) | Long-reach 10km single-mode LC — XQ+31LC10D (USD 349.00)."*

General information
All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.
Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.
Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.
Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.
Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.
Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.
MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.
Wireless Netware offers every participant a free RouterBOARD hAP-ac-lite.
