MikroTik Groove 52 Dual-Band Outdoor Wi-Fi 4 CPE RouterOS

The MikroTik Groove 52 is MikroTik's smallest outdoor RouterBOARD — a dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi 4 CPE and backbone unit in a 180 × 49 × 44 mm, 193 g weatherproof enclosure with a built-in N-male connector, software-selectable band switching, Nv2 TDMA support (up to 125 Mbps aggregate), passive PoE-in (9–30V), passive cooling, -40°C to +70°C, and RouterOS v7 on License 3. CE, FCC, IC, EAC, and RoHS certified — fully IC-certified for Canadian sale. Includes PoE injector, 24V 0.38A power adapter, and metal mounting ring. USD 59.00. The correct low-cost outdoor CPE for point-to-point backbone links, last-mile subscriber delivery, and antenna-direct N-male deployments on a tight budget.

The MikroTik Groove 52 is the entry point for outdoor wireless in the MikroTik RouterBOARD product line — the smallest outdoor RouterBOARD device MikroTik produces, and at USD 59.00, the most accessible price point for a fully featured outdoor CPE with RouterOS at its core. It is not a consumer Wi-Fi extender repackaged for outdoor use. It is a purpose-built outdoor wireless device running the same RouterOS platform used in MikroTik's enterprise routing and switching equipment — with every RouterOS feature available, no feature tiers, and no subscription costs.

The dual-band software-selectable design is the Groove 52's most practical deployment feature. A single Groove 52 unit covers both 2.4 GHz (2412–2484 MHz, international version) and 5 GHz (5150–5875 MHz, international version) — the operator selects the active band in RouterOS without any hardware change. For a WISP or network integrator managing a mixed-frequency outdoor network, this means a single SKU covers both band deployments. Spare units serve as replacements for either frequency — reducing inventory complexity and eliminating the need to stock separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz CPE models.

Two versions exist and the distinction is critical for Canadian buyers. The **Groove 52 (International)** supports the full 2412–2484 MHz and 5150–5875 MHz frequency range, with specific frequencies further limited by country regulations via RouterOS country profile. The **Groove 52-US** is factory-locked to 2412–2462 MHz, 5170–5250 MHz, and 5725–5835 MHz — a hardware lock that cannot be removed. Canadian buyers should confirm which version is supplied by their distributor. The International version under the Canadian country profile in RouterOS is the correct choice for Canadian deployments — the US version's frequency lock may exclude channels that are legal in Canada but outside the US-locked range.

The built-in N-male connector is the hardware design decision that defines the Groove 52's deployment profile. N-male is the industry-standard connector for outdoor wireless antenna systems — N-female on the antenna cable connects directly to the Groove 52's N-male port, with no adapter required. The Groove 52 mounts directly to the antenna's N-female connector — no cable, no pigtail, no additional connector loss between the radio and the antenna element. For directional antennas with N-female connectors (sector panels, dishes, Yagi arrays), the Groove 52 attaches to the antenna directly. The pole attachment points on the Groove 52 body allow mast or pole mounting when used with a standard N-male to N-female cable.

Nv2 TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) protocol support is MikroTik's proprietary wireless protocol for point-to-multipoint outdoor wireless networks. Where standard 802.11 contention-based access degrades under high client load — simultaneous transmissions, hidden node problems, interference — Nv2 TDMA uses deterministic time-slot scheduling to coordinate transmissions between the access point and multiple CPE clients, eliminating contention and delivering up to 125 Mbps aggregate throughput across the sector. For WISPs running point-to-multipoint subscriber delivery with multiple Groove 52 CPEs connected to a MikroTik Nv2 base station, this is a direct improvement over standard 802.11n contention-based performance under load.

The LED signal indicators are a field installation feature that matters at scale. When a technician is aligning a Groove 52 CPE to a distant base station from a rooftop or pole — often alone, often without a laptop connected — the onboard signal LEDs provide real-time signal strength indication without requiring a connected computer, a phone with the MikroTik app, or a second person reading a Winbox screen. Antenna alignment is faster and more accurate with onboard indicators. This is a standard feature on MikroTik outdoor CPEs and one that installation teams consistently cite as a practical time-saver on large deployments.

The PCB temperature monitor, voltage monitor, and beeper are operational health monitoring features available to RouterOS scripts and SNMP monitoring systems. The beeper can be triggered by RouterOS scripting — audible alert on fault conditions without requiring a connected display. For unattended remote outdoor installations where physical access is infrequent, onboard health monitoring feeds network management systems with device-level status data.

Power is via passive PoE-in (9–30V) on the single 10/100 Ethernet port — a single Ethernet cable from the included PoE injector carries both power and data to the mounting point. Maximum power consumption is 6W — the lowest in this product batch. A standard passive PoE injector or any 9–30V passive PoE source powers the device. The included 24V 0.38A power adapter and PoE injector provide a complete power solution out of the box.

RouterOS (latest stable: v7.22.3 for MIPSBE) on License 3 runs on a single-core AR9342 MIPSBE CPU at 600 MHz with 64 MB RAM and 16 MB FLASH. License 3 covers the wireless CPE and backbone use cases the Groove 52 is designed for — it does not include the full BGP and advanced routing feature set of License 4 or higher, but for outdoor CPE, point-to-point backbone, and fixed wireless subscriber delivery, License 3 is the correct and sufficient licence tier. Software updates are included for the life of the product, guaranteed minimum 5 years from purchase.

**Canadian market note:** The Groove 52 is one of the few products in this batch with full Canadian IC certification confirmed — CE, FCC, IC, EAC, and RoHS are all listed. For Canadian buyers who have encountered IC certification gaps across the rest of this MikroTik LTE and IoT product batch, the Groove 52 is fully cleared for Canadian sale without distributor confirmation required on that specific point.

General information

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.

MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.

Wireless Netware offers every participant a free RouterBOARD hAP-ac-lite.
