MikroTik LHG 5 ax 24.5 dBi Wi-Fi 6 Outdoor PtP CPE

The MikroTik LHG 5 ax (LHG-5axD) is the compact, budget-entry Wi-Fi 6 long-range outdoor CPE in MikroTik's LHG ax series — the same modern 802.11ax platform as the XL model, at 24.5 dBi antenna gain. With 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 at 1,200 Mbps, WPA3 security, Gigabit Ethernet with passive PoE-in (12–28V), dual-core IPQ-5010 ARM CPU, 256 MB RAM, aerodynamic grid antenna, IP54 weatherproofing, and FCC and IC certification, it is purpose-built for stable point-to-point links up to 20 km — ideal for building-to-building bridges, WISP CPE deployments, and remote site connectivity at an accessible entry price.

The MikroTik LHG 5 ax is the Wi-Fi 6 upgrade to MikroTik's most popular long-range outdoor CPE platform — now with 802.11ax, 1024-QAM, OFDMA, and WPA3 built in, at the same price as the previous generation. For the vast majority of point-to-point link deployments — building bridges, WISP last-mile CPE, remote site connectivity, and farm or rural internet sharing — the LHG 5 ax at 24.5 dBi and up to 20 km range covers everything needed.

The 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) upgrade over the previous LHG generation is not a marginal improvement. Higher modulation (1024-QAM vs 256-QAM on 802.11ac), OFDMA sub-channel allocation, and improved spectral efficiency mean the LHG 5 ax delivers noticeably higher throughput per MHz and more stable data rates in RF environments with interference, adjacent channel activity, or competing links on the same band. Real-world outdoor links that previously ran at inconsistent rates on 802.11ac will run more consistently on the same hardware footprint with Wi-Fi 6.

WPA3 is included as standard — the current wireless security baseline for deployments where WPA2 is no longer sufficient. No additional configuration or licensing required.

The aerodynamic grid antenna design handles Canadian outdoor installation realities. Grid antennas shed wind load far better than solid dishes — a practical consideration for pole, tower, and rooftop mounts exposed to wind, ice, and snow. The IP54 rating and -40°C to +70°C operating range confirm it is built for year-round outdoor operation in Canadian conditions.

A single Gigabit Ethernet cable running passive PoE (12–28V) from the included PoE injector is all that is needed to power and connect the unit. At 5W maximum consumption, the LHG 5 ax is among the most energy-efficient 5 GHz outdoor units available — relevant for solar-powered remote sites and battery-backed installations.

When the 20 km range of the standard LHG 5 ax is not enough, the LHG XL 5 ax (27 dBi, up to 30 km) is the direct upgrade path — same platform, same RouterOS v7, same installation process, more antenna gain.

Key features:

- 24.5 dBi integrated grid antenna — 5 GHz directional, capable of PtP links up to 20 km in ideal conditions

- Wi-Fi 6 (802.11a/n/ac/ax) — 1024-QAM, OFDMA, improved spectral efficiency over previous LHG generation

- 1,200 Mbps max data rate — dual-chain 5 GHz, QCN-6102 chip

- WPA3 security — modern wireless encryption built-in

- Aerodynamic grid antenna design — reduced wind load for permanent outdoor mounts

- 1× 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet with Passive PoE-in (12–28V)

- Dual-core IPQ-5010 ARM 32-bit CPU, 800 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 128 MB NAND

- Max power consumption 5W — passive cooling, no moving parts

- IP54 weatherproofing — rain and dust resistant for permanent outdoor installation

- CPU temperature monitor

- RouterOS v7, License Level 3 — wireless bridge, PtP and PtMP modes, VLAN, firewall, traffic shaping, SNMP — no subscriptions, free updates for life (minimum 5 years)

- FCC, IC, CE, EAC, RoHS certified — fully approved for Canadian deployments

- Tested ambient temperature -40°C to +70°C, MTBF ~100,000 hours at 25°C

In the box: 24V 0.38A power adapter, K-LHG mounting kit, Gigabit PoE injector, 2× hose clamps.

Ideal for: point-to-point building-to-building wireless bridges up to 20 km; WISP last-mile CPE at standard deployment distances; remote site connectivity where fiber or cable is unavailable; farm and rural property internet sharing; Canadian outdoor deployments requiring FCC/IC certification and weather resistance down to -40°C; and budget-conscious deployments where the 24.5 dBi LHG 5 ax provides all the range needed and the LHG XL 5 ax upgrade is not required.

General information

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.

MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.

Wireless Netware offers every participant a free RouterBOARD hAP-ac-lite.

The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch, "Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses.

Please bring (very important): Laptop, power extension strip (10ft./3m) with five sockets, one long Ethernet cable (16ft./5m+) and several short Ethernet cables.

Cost: Early bird price for the course is $850. It is valid 15 days before the scheduled session, referring to the MikroTik Training website. The price will be $1050 after the early bird date. The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch," Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses. Seating is limited to only four students. The seat is reserved and guaranteed just after the payment is received in full amount.
