MikroTik CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe 25G RouterOS PCIe Router Card

The MikroTik CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe is a unique PCIe network interface card that embeds a complete, fully licensed RouterOS router directly inside a server. Installed into a standard PCIe slot, it presents itself to the host as a network interface while simultaneously running RouterOS v7 on its own dedicated quad-core ARM64 AL52400 processor running at 1500 MHz with 4 GB of RAM. The card provides 1× Gigabit Ethernet and 2× 25G SFP28 ports, and can operate in two modes: a standard RouterOS mode for full routing, firewall, and VPN functionality, or a Passthrough mode for near-transparent, wire-speed bridging at up to 100 Gbps with Jumbo frames. Supported on Linux hosts and RouterOS hosts, it is aimed for those who want to add powerful router capabilities to an existing server.

The CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe is one of MikroTik's most unconventional products — a complete Cloud Core Router built into a PCIe card form factor. Rather than deploying a separate router appliance, operators can install this card into a server's PCIe slot and gain a fully independent RouterOS instance running alongside the server's own operating system. This makes it possible to consolidate routing, firewalling, VPN termination, and user management into the same physical chassis as the compute infrastructure, saving rack space and reducing complexity.

By default, the PCIe interface presents as four virtual Ethernet interfaces to the host: two interfaces in passthrough mode for bridging at wire speed, and the remaining two for standard in-band management and routing. The dedicated AL52400 quad-core ARMv8 64-bit CPU runs at 1500 MHz independently of the host CPU and is backed by 4 GB of RAM and 128 MB of NAND flash — enough headroom for sophisticated firewall rulesets, IPsec encryption across hundreds of tunnels, queue-based traffic shaping, and advanced routing configurations. IPsec throughput in testing reaches up to 2.6 Gbps (AES-128-CBC + SHA1, 256 tunnels, 1400-byte packets).

The Passthrough mode is a particularly compelling feature for high-performance server environments. In this mode, the card operates similarly to a FastFlow-accelerated inline device, achieving wire-speed throughput of up to 100 Gbps with Jumbo frames — meaning that in most server setups, the CCR NIC will not be the bottleneck. Standard bridging without Passthrough reaches up to approximately 28 Gbps at 1518-byte frames, while routing without fast path achieves approximately 13 Gbps.

The physical port configuration consists of 1× 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet port and 2× 25G SFP28 ports. Monitoring features include CPU temperature, PCB temperature, current, and voltage monitors. The card is cooled by a single active fan and draws a maximum of 29 W (22 W without SFP transceivers attached). Operating temperature is rated -20 °C to 60 °C.

The card ships with both a small (low-profile) and a large (full-height) PCIe bracket, allowing it to fit standard ATX and low-profile server chassis alike. Host compatibility requires Linux with a minimum kernel version of 5.15.25, or RouterOS version 7.x or later. RouterOS v7 is preinstalled with a Level 6 licence — the highest available — requiring no additional licensing. Certifications include CE, EAC, and RoHS.

General information

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.

MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.

Wireless Netware offers every participant a free RouterBOARD hAP-ac-lite.

The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch, "Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses.

Please bring (very important): Laptop, power extension strip (10ft./3m) with five sockets, one long Ethernet cable (16ft./5m+) and several short Ethernet cables.

Cost: Early bird price for the course is $850. It is valid 15 days before the scheduled session, referring to the MikroTik Training website. The price will be $1050 after the early bird date. The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch," Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses. Seating is limited to only four students. The seat is reserved and guaranteed just after the payment is received in full amount.

Certificates will only be valid for three years.
