The MikroTik FiberBox Plus is the budget outdoor 10G fiber switch in the MikroTik lineup — the correct choice when 4× SFP+ ports and IP66 weatherproofing are the requirements, and the five additional 1G SFP ports of the netFiber 9 are not needed. At USD 229.00 versus the netFiber 9's USD 249.00, the USD 20 difference buys exactly that: no 1G SFP ports, otherwise identical switching silicon and outdoor protection.

**The 98DX226S — identical to the netFiber 9**

The Marvell 98DX226S integrated CPU + switch ASIC is the same chip documented for the netFiber 9 in this product batch — dual-core ARM32 at 800 MHz, hardware-offloaded Layer 2 switching across all ports at line rate, hardware ACL, L3 hardware routing offload for inter-VLAN flows, and jumbo frame support. MikroTik's own description confirms it directly: "it even features the same impressive Marvell 98DX226S switch-chip, so the performance is definitely there." The FiberBox Plus delivers identical switching performance to the netFiber 9 — the only hardware difference is the absence of the five 1G SFP ports.

**4× SFP+ ports — 10G with backward compatibility**

All four SFP+ ports accept 10G SFP+ transceivers and DAC cables (10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, 10G DAC) at full 10G speed, and are backward compatible with 1G SFP transceivers for legacy fiber infrastructure. For a tower site connecting 4 downstream 10G-capable devices — sector AP aggregation switches, outdoor routers with SFP+ ports, or inter-building fiber links — the FiberBox Plus covers the deployment completely. Where more than 4 fiber connections are required, or where a mix of 1G and 10G SFP connections is needed, the netFiber 9 is the correct upgrade path.

**IP66 + passive cooling + 7W idle — the outdoor efficiency argument**

IP66 complete dust protection and powerful water jet resistance from any direction. Passive cooling — no fans, no moving parts, no maintenance, no fan failure risk. 7W max power consumption without attachments is the lowest idle power draw of any outdoor fiber switch in MikroTik's current catalogue — relevant for solar or battery-backed remote installations where power budget is constrained. The 3-source power architecture (DC jack, PoE-in, 2-pin terminal) covers every outdoor power delivery scenario: tower DC bus via 2-pin terminal, PoE from an 802.3af/at switch via GbE, or AC adapter via DC jack.

**FiberBox Plus vs netFiber 9 — the decision**

- **FiberBox Plus (USD 229):** 4× SFP+ only, IP66, 7W idle. Correct when 4 fiber connections are sufficient and lowest cost and power draw matter.

- **netFiber 9 (USD 249):** 5× SFP (1G) + 4× SFP+ (10G) + 1× GbE, IP54, 10W idle. Correct when 1G SFP access ports are needed alongside 10G SFP+ uplinks.

**5-year software support guarantee:** RouterOS v7 and SwitchOS updates free for life of product or minimum 5 years from date of purchase.

**Canadian market note:** CE, EAC, RoHS only — no FCC, no IC published. Wired switch, no wireless transmitter — no ISED wireless advisory applies. Confirm CSA/cUL electrical safety requirements with distributor before listing.

General information

All students who attend the Training can receive a free L4 license from MikroTik. Training should be at least three days long.

Students are allowed to take the certification test ONLY upon the attendance of individual training course, in the class, under the supervision of a MikroTik Certified Training Partner.

Each certification test consists of a pre-defined % of random questions (multiple choice and true/false) from specific question categories. Items also have a difficulty parameter. MTCNA test is generated from more straightforward questions, Advanced tests – from more difficult questions.

Only one attempt is allowed. The test must be finished within one hour. The passing grade is set to 60%. There are 25 questions in the exam.

Certificate numbers and RouterOS L4 licenses are assigned automatically by MikroTik. Students can see their certificates and generate license keys once logged into the account server. Printed documents from MikroTik cost USD 30 per piece. Shipping is not included.

Remote training sessions and certification exams are not allowed.

MikroTik Certification Test without prior attendance of particular MikroTik Training Session is not allowed.

Wireless Netware offers every participant a free RouterBOARD hAP-ac-lite.

The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch, "Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses.

Please bring (very important): Laptop, power extension strip (10ft./3m) with five sockets, one long Ethernet cable (16ft./5m+) and several short Ethernet cables.

Cost: Early bird price for the course is $850. It is valid 15 days before the scheduled session, referring to the MikroTik Training website. The price will be $1050 after the early bird date. The price includes class attendance, course materials, coffee breaks and lunch," Only for local Training." The amount does not cover travel and accommodation expenses. Seating is limited to only four students. The seat is reserved and guaranteed just after the payment is received in full amount.

Certificates will only be valid for three years.
